Luke = 3
How is Luke already 3? The days are long and the years are short my friends. Especially with two. Holy Cow.
This year, in about April, Luke started asking about his birthday, and requesting a Mickey Mouse cake. We're not quite sure where this came from - he did enjoy the occasional Mickey Mouse Clubhouse show on Netflix, but has not had much exposure other than that. Who knows what's really going on in the mind of a 2.5 year old.
His wishes did not change as we got close to his birthday so a Mickey Mouse party it was! We have been so busy this year we decided to have a small family cookout, and invite Liam and Shane - our neighbors from down the street that Luke had again been asking to invite since April.
It was a really great night - full of family, fun, gifts and of course Mickey Mouse shaped desserts. Luke and his friends enjoyed dinner on his new picnic table outside and had a great time playing. He loved every gift and had a great time eating way too much chocolate cake, and playing with all his new toys. He played soccer with Uncle Evan and Uncle Joe, read books with Aunt Julie and tried out his new scooter on the sidewalk.
Luke is an unbelievable kid. So smart, thoughtful and sweet. He is witty, and surprisingly fun to have a conversation with at three years old. He loves Curious George, Paw Patrol, and is almost 100% potty trained. He loves to help with chores, cooking meals with Dave and I, and play/wrestle with his little brother. He LOVES to talk on the phone which is about the sweetest sound you will ever hear. He is still a great sleeper - but has taken to popping out of his room to ask for assistance with straightening his sheets - or getting another drink of water. He always tells me to "sleep well Mommy - come get me if anything scares you and I'll come find it". When I told him a few days ago I was lucky to be his mommy he told me that "I am lucky to be your boy". He also called me birthday girl all day on his birthday, since I was calling him birthday boy. Cannot even handle his sweetness.
We are doing gymnastics right now for 40 minutes on Tuesday mornings. I really wanted him to be involved in something before he starts preschool in the fall. That's right my friends. Preschool. Woah. Our first class was rough, I won't lie, but he has grown and improved in following directions and participation every week. We are so proud of him! Daddy was able to come watch and get some pictures one week - which Luke really loved. I have loved watching his relationship with Dave grow as well - they are truly two peas in a pod. Same gait, mannerisms, sense of goofy humor and all. They love to wrestle and play, camp out in the backyard, do work out in the yard and around the house together. He is SO lucky to have such a wonderful, supportive, fun and involved father.
What a year this was for sweet mister Luke. He is 42" tall and 40 lbs 6 oz, still on his own growth curve. His speech and vocabulary are incredible and is an absolute joy to raise.
We love you buddy! Happy 3rd birthday!
