Fifth Annual Fourth
This year was the 5th year we spent the 4th of July away with the Bednarko family. This is one of my FAVORITE traditions. Usually we have a jam packed weekend of festivals, parades, dinners out and other activities, but with Jim's recent passing, we all decided to make this a shorter trip (just two nights) and to eliminate most of the activities. And, I won't lie to you, this was the best 4th yet.
We headed up Friday afternoon, and after a drive with horrendous traffic, arrived in time for a late dinner. However, a drive that's twice as long as it's supposed to be ends up with hilarious videos like this one:
So, there is a bright side. We spent the rest of the night watching the boys drive power wheels, had a few cocktails and relaxed.
We headed to Kristy and Jason's neighborhood pool on Saturday morning and spent a few hours splashing in the kiddie pool, playing games, and having snacks. No agenda, just family fun. We had lunch and the boys CRASHED for nap after. Also, please enjoy this video of the boys on the way to the pool, no need to call CPS, no children were harmed in the making of this video :)
Then, Saturday night, we had a great cookout dinner and set off some fireworks, our absolute favorite activity. This is the second year we have done this, and I mean, the joy from these four little boys is SO contagious. They, and we, had the BEST time.
Sunday, we just let the boys play, and, again, relaxed. This was the first trip where all children were self sufficient, and might I say, it was life changing. We walked to the neighborhood park and played, had lunch and then we were headed back south on 65. Though we always love more cousin/family time, this weekend was the perfect break from real life, and full of love, laughter, and as always, firery explosions :)
