Christmas 2017

We had a wonderful Christmas season this year! We started early with Cousin’s Christmas, PJ version, in early December at our house, and it was one of the most fun nights we have had the past few years. We ate until we couldn’t eat anymore, watched the kids color and play and get to know each other better, let Luke, Eli, Jax and JoJo have a slumber party in the basement and had an overall festive time to kick off the season!

Then, we celebrated Christmas with Dave’s family in Chicago the weekend of December 15th/16th. We headed up after Luke’s Christmas show at school with Grandma, Dexter and a van full, I mean FULL of gifts.

We got there safely, let the kids play and headed out for a yummy dinner. We did our Christmas morning Saturday morning and I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves! What a great day. Kristy and Jason had catered a delicious dinner, so no one had to cook, and we rounded out the evening watching Christmas movies and playing the card version of the Oregon Trail game.

We headed home Sunday afternoon van and hearts full :)

Then, unfortunately the plague hit our house (let’s be clear it hit me) for the next several weeks. I really struggled not feeling well for so long, but was luckily at least able to participate in most Christmas activities.

We headed to see Santa at Sullivan’s Hardware that Tuesday, a great day we look forward to every year! We also made it over to Reynold’s Farm Equipment to see their great Christmas lights show. We like to see those in our jammies with hot chocolate from Starbuck’s and let the boys fly all over the back of the van while we (slowly) drive through.

Then, we visited the Winter Lights at Newfield’s and were awed by the beautiful lights, music and overall atmosphere there. It will definitely be on our list of Christmas things to do again next year! What a cool display.

We were able to go to one of our other favorite holiday traditions, a dinner at the Pirau’s house on December 23rd, which, is the only tradition we have that hasn’t changed over the years. My family has been doing this since I was about 8 years old, and every single year since. It is always a great time catching up, sharing holiday joy and enjoying wonderful food and drink! The boys really enjoyed this year since both their uncles and aunt Hannie were there, and there were also movies and Nintendo games to be enjoyed!

On Christmas Eve Day, we had a relaxed morning at home, headed to church with Dave’s family at Trader’s Point for the 3 p.m. service, and then headed home, just our family, for our traditional pasta dinner, cookie making and Christmas jammie opening. We left a plate out for Santa with fresh cookies and milk and carrots for his reindeer, also, both boys left him notes this year as well. Luke’s said “Dear Santa, I have been mostly nice, and a little naughty” hilarious.

Also, we had a beautiful snowfall on Christmas Eve that we let the boys bundle up and play in before dinner. Though it made everything late, it was priceless watching them roll around, try and sled down the driveway and wrestle each other! This was the first white Christmas we have had since Luke was born and it was magical!

Dave and I had a late night watching Die Hard and finishing up some last minute construction! Santa was good to the boys this year! He left them some books, clothes, a trampoline for the basement, and Dave and I got them a Super Nintendo and portable basketball goal to feed Luke’s never ending basketball fever!

We had french toast for breakfast and spent all morning relaxing in our jammies. My family came up for our Warner Christmas that afternoon. We had vegan enchiladas, Hannah’s amazing guac and plenty of laughter and drinks to go around! My brothers and Hannah both spent the night so we got some more time with everyone in the morning as well! The boys were spoiled rotten again, by their family, they are so lucky to have such wonderful, thoughtful, loving family members around!!

It was a wonderful, not too jam packed Christmas season and we enjoyed every moment of the magic this year! The white Christmas was an especially lovely touch.
